S’adossant à la réflexion d’artistes contemporains, Jürgen Conrady et François Vouga affirment l’intelligibilité du langage pictural ou musical. L’œuvre d’art est une forme de langage qui structure le regard porté sur la réalité et qui donne sens au temps vécu de l’existence. Les auteurs entendent ensuite mettre en question la tradition philosophique qui interprète l’œuvre d’art comme métaphore de la révélation divine. Partant d’une théologie de l’incarnation, ils tentent de comprendre et de montrer la signification de la matérialité du son et de la couleur. L’œuvre est ou n’est pas, dans sa matérialité, événement de la présence et de la révélation.
Taking their stand upon the reflexion of contemporary artists, the authors affirm the intelligibility of pictorial and musical language. A work of art is a form of language that structures the way we look at reality and gives meaning to the temporal experience of our existence. The authors also question the philosophical tradition which interprets works of art as metaphors of divine revelation. Starting from a theology of the incarnation, their aim is to understand and articulate the meaning born by the materiality of sounds and colors. A work of art may or may not be, in its materiality, an occasion for the presence of revelation.
